Flyers Trade Prospect Legein To Los Angeles
The Flyers announced on Wednesday that they traded 22-year-old Stefan Legein, along with a sixth-round pick, to the Los Angeles Kings for future considerations.
Legein was traded to the Flyers in October 2009 from the Columbus Blue Jackets for fellow minor leaguer Mike Ratchuk. He had five goals and 12 assists in 41 games with the Adirondack Phantoms last season.
While it remains to be seen what the Flyers get in return, it will probably be some form of draft pick. By letting Legein loose, the Flyers shed themselves of a contract, allowing Sean Couturier to stay past the 11 games before the Flyers would have to make a decision as to whether he’d stay with the NHL or go back to his team in juniors.
The Flyers were at 50 contracts after Blair Betts was returned to the team following a failed physical when he was claimed by the Montreal Canadiens. The Flyers are now at 49 contracts, with Couturier being “slide eligible.” If he stays past his 11th game played, his contract will also count against the limit and the Flyers will return to the maximum 50.
