Sixers Keep 16th Pick, Select Nikola Vucevic
PHILADELPHIA — The day of the NBA Draft was spent with Internet rumors flying, but in the end the Sixers played it boring, keeping the 16th pick in the draft and selecting European big man Nikola Vucevic out of USC.
As of right now, Andre Iguodala remains a Sixer.
Vucevic measured at a shade under 7 feet at the scouting combine in Chicago in late May. The 76ers brought him in for a workout on June 8. The 20 year old played three years at USC, averaging 17.1 points and a Pac-10-leading 10.3 rebounds this past season.
“This kid is kind of a hot name right now,” a scout recently told Philly Sports Daily. “Really good hands. Good skill set. He can shoot it. I think his shot will improve. … Great work ethic. He’s a strong kid. He’s kind of a grind-it-out guy.”
In the second round, The Sixers took Temple senior forward Lavoy Allen with the 50th overall selection.
