Thad Young 3rd in NBA 6th Man Vote
Sixers supersubs Thaddeus Young and Lou Williams finished as also-rans in voting for the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year award, an honor that on Tuesday was bestowed upon the Lakers’ Lamar Odom.
Odom received 96 first-place votes and 513 points. Dallas guard Jason Terry (13 first-place votes, 244 points) finished second.
Young, who received two first-place votes and 76 points, was a distant third. Williams was sixth, with a single first-place vote and 26 points.
Young, a fourth-year forward identified recently as the Sixers’ MVP by New Jersey Nets coach Avery Johnson, averaged 12.7 points and shot a career-high 54.1 percent during the regular season.
Williams, a sixth-year guard, scored 13.7 points a game.
The Sixers finished third in the league in bench scoring (39.2) this season.
The only Sixers to ever be named Sixth Man of the Year were Bobby Jones, who was presented the inaugural award in 1983, and Aaron McKie, who was honored in 2001. McKie is now an assistant coach with the team.
