Hunter Pence Day-To-Day With Patellar Tendinitis
CITIZENS BANK PARK — Hunter Pence has patellar tendinitis in his left knee, but says it’s not an issue.
“It’s going to be fine,” Pence said. “I already feel a lot better.”
Pence tweaked the knee in Game 1 of Tuesday’s doubleheader with Washington. He left the game in the sixth inning. Pence was one of the few prominent Phillies in the lineup during the afternoon game, and while he collected two hits on the day, he left after a sixth-inning single having limped throughout much of the game.
Recent call-up Brandon Moss took Pence’s place on the base paths after the hit. Pence had played in every possible inning since joining the Phillies before being taken out.
He did not play in the nightcap — although he wanted to.
“The trainers didn’t want me to play. It was precautionary,” he said.
The All-Star right fielder will have a precautionary MRI on Wednesday, although he doesn’t think it’s completely necessary. Patellar tendinitis is something that Pence has dealt with before.
“I’ve had it forever, it just flared up a little,” he said.
Pence is hoping to be in the lineup Wednesday night. “There’s a difference between pain and being injured,” he said. “Pain is something you deal with.”
