Reports: Maple Leafs Inquire About Van Riemsdyk
It doesn’t seem like the Flyers are ready to give up on James van Riemsdyk, but at least one other team would like them to.
The Toronto Maple Leafs inquired about trading for van Riemsdyk, but the Flyers told them they have no interest in making that sort of move, according to reports, including one on CSNPhilly.com.
According to CSNPhilly, Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke would like to acquire van Riemsdyk. Burke’s patience paid off for another power forward from New Jersey – Anaheim’s Bobby Ryan.
Flyers GM Paul Holmgren doesn’t want to give up too soon and see van Riemsdyk’s career take off elsewhere.
TSN reported several teams called the Flyers about van Riemsdyk earlier in the season.
It’s been a tough year for van Riemsdyk, the former No. 2 overall pick who was a healthy scratch for four games so far this season. But he’s since bounced back and played well on a line with Andreas Nodl and Mike Richards.
“It’s funny how hockey works sometimes,” van Riemsdyk said last week. “You may not necessarily feel you’re playing a ton of a lot different or better, but sometimes you get the bounces and sometimes you put some points in.”
