No Worries About Contract For Pro-Bowler McCoy

Asked who the first person he called was upon learning that he had made the Pro Bowl, LeSean McCoy joked that he dialed up team president Joe Banner to talk about his contract.

“No, I’m playing,” said McCoy. The real answer was friends and family.

McCoy later noted that there is plenty of time to talk about contracts. But it won’t be long until those discussions hit center stage.

The 23-year-old back has an identical contract to that of DeSean Jackson, only one year behind. That means McCoy is slated to play in the final year of his rookie deal next season to the tune of $600,000.

And, like Jackson, McCoy is represented by agent Drew Rosenhaus (though it is fair to question whether McCoy will continue to employ Rosenhaus, seeing as he’s fired and re-hired him twice this season).

There is a different feel in regards to the relationship between team and player, however — at least at this stage — and the Harrisburg native is doing his part to keep the narrative positive.

“I’m a local guy. I love it here. I love the guys in the locker room,” he said.

Coming off his first Pro Bowl campaign, one that saw records fall and the back’s stock rise to elite levels, McCoy carries a healthy amount of leverage into the offseason. Intentionally or otherwise, he used some of it to strengthen Andy Reid’s position during a conference call with reporters Tuesday.

“I think the biggest thing, when you talk to other players, is how the coaches are. Andy Reid is one of the best coaches, best personalities, works real hard, and a coach like that you want to play for,” said McCoy.

“I would love to be here, man. It’s the right fit for me not just football-wise but fit as a person. Coach makes everybody feel like they’re part of this thing together.”

Coleman Reportedly To IR

The Eagles have placed safety Kurt Coleman on injured reserve, according to multiple reports.

Rookie safety Jaiquawn Jarrett will likely get the nod in his absence against Washington.

Coleman finishes the year with 78 tackles, four interceptions and a forced fumble in 15 games.
