Morning Cheat Sheet
For everything you need to know in Philadelphia sports this Wednesday morning, this is the place:
1. The Eagles’ season has been over for just a few days, but it’s also been 12 years under Andy Reid without a Super Bowl. Rob Ellis says enough’s enough and the team should make a change.
2. Everyone (including Michael Vick) thought Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg was in line for a head coaching position, but he hasn’t had a lot of luck so far drawing interest from NFL teams.
3. The offensive line is a position of need. In the second piece of a three-part series, NFL Draft analyst Chris Steuber takes a look at how the Eagles could improve there in April.
4. The NHL All-Star Game rosters were announced Tuesday, and Claude Giroux was the Flyers’ only representative.
5. Danny Briere was the team’s most noticeable snub; he scored his team-leading 22nd goal of the season and added three assists to lead the Flyers to a 5-2 win over the Sabres. And in case you were worried, the Flyers braved the snowstorm and landed safely in Boston.
6. One of the reasons the Flyers didn’t get multiple All-Stars is also one of the top reasons they’re in first place in the Eastern Conference: Unbelievably balanced scoring.
7. The Union unveiled their new jersey sponsor: Bimbo Bakeries. And while it’s pronounced “Beem-bo,” a logo that reads “Bimbo” will be on the front of the MLS team’s uniforms for the next four years.
8. It won’t make a real difference as UConn is poised to hire Mark Whipple, but did new Temple football coach Steve Addazio reach out to the Huskies about their opening after just weeks with the Owls?
9. For just the third time in 12 home games (but this time with Andre Iguodala), the Sixers lost. Iguodala struggled by scoring just one point as his team fell 111-103 to the Pacers.
10. In former Sixer news, the underachieving Matt Geiger is still underachieving. This time it’s his Florida mansion that sold well under its asking price.
