Vick Is Third Quarterback For Eagles Vs. Falcons

Michael Vick will serve as the emergency third quarterback for the Eagles on Sunday against the 4-1 Falcons.

Vick practiced Friday, taking a few reps with the scout team, but is not all the way back from the rib injury he suffered against the Redskins two weeks ago. Kevin Kolb will get his third start of the season, with Mike Kafka serving as his backup.

By rule, if Vick were to enter prior to the fourth quarter, Kolb and Kafka would be ineligible to return.

The other inactives for the Eagles are Riley Cooper, Trevard Lindley, Keenan Clayton, Jason Peters, Clay Harbor, Jerome Harrison and Brodrick Bunkley.

Cooper (concussion) practiced on Friday, but given a recent flare-up of symptoms, the Eagles are likely being cautious. Chad Hall will serve as the fourth wideout for the second consecutive week.

Rookie defensive end/tackle Daniel Te’o-Nesheim is active for the first time in his career, as the Eagles made adjustments in the absence of Bunkley.

The third-round pick out of Washington has seen time in the interior both in training camp and during practice. Trevor Laws and Antonio Dixon are expected to split time at tackle for Bunkley, who suffered an elbow injury in San Francisco last week. There is no definitive timetable for Bunkley’s return, but the injury is far less severe than first thought and Andy Reid cited progress at his Friday news conference.

The original plan was to promote Jeff Owens from the practice squad, but since Bunkley is expected back in the short term, the Eagles likely didn’t want to cut someone from their 53-man roster to make room for Owens.

The newly-acquired Harrison is inactive for Sunday’s game in Atlanta. Eldra Buckley will serve as the No. 2 back behind LeSean McCoy. Harrison was obtained from the Browns for fellow running back Mike Bell this week. Reid said getting Harrison properly ready to play against the Falcons would be “like learning French in two days.”

Peters had knee surgery on Thursday. King Dunlap will start for him at left tackle.
