Eagles’ Offensive Line Almost Back To Normal
The projected starting offensive line worked together for the first time all preseason on Sunday. Granted, it was for an abbreviated time and during a light practice but a welcome sight nonetheless, especially coming off Friday’s shaky performance against the Bengals.
Todd Herremans is close to being all the way back from his foot injury, Andy Reid saying that he will play against the Chiefs barring a setback. Jamaal Jackson got a little hitting in Sunday but will not suit up for the Kansas City game. Nick Cole (knee) was again unable to practice.
Without Herremans, Jackson or Cole at its disposal, the offensive front struggled in a 22-9 loss to the Bengals. With the regular season a couple weeks away, it was unsettling to see so many leaks and breakdowns.
“I think we have a ways to go,” said right tackle Winston Justice. “We need to be more consistent. We had a lot of missed assignments. That’s something you really can’t do in the NFL.”
Added Justice: “Todd’s coming back this week. I think that’s going to boost morale a little bit.”
The interior of the O-line appeared to commit the most errors, with the trio of center Mike McGlynn and guards Max Jean-Gilles and Stacy Andrews unable to keep pressure from getting through up the middle.
“We had one or two mental mistakes when we were working on the wrong guy, but that stuff is easy to fix,” said McGlynn. ” The more and more we play together, the more in-tune we’ll be.”
The starters are expected to play three quarters this week in Kansas City, which should help the starting unit get on the same page.
