Kolb, First Team Set For More Action

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – In the final news conference up at Lehigh, Andy Reid revealed that Kevin Kolb and the rest of the first stringers would play the entire first half Friday at Cincinnati. Michael Vick will man the offense for the third quarter, and Mike Kafka will play the fourth.

The Eagles exit training camp and enter the game in pretty good health, though the offensive line will be thin once again. Todd Herremans (foot), Jamaal Jackson (knee) and Nick Cole (knee) are out for the Bengals game, along with defensive end Victor Abiamiri (knee) and cornerback David Pender (illness). Herremans was the only lineman of the three to practice Wednesday.

Asante Samuel (hamstring) and Mike Bell (calf/hamstring) are questionable.

Samuel tweeted mid-Wednesday: “The hammy has been tough, but better every day. Doc will decide about this week, but know that this year will be huge!”

Bell has been hampered by leg injuries for much of camp, but he didn’t let them keep him from leaving Lehigh without at least making an appearance.

He was on the field Wednesday morning for the team’s final practice before breaking camp, a bit of a surprise given the calf injury he suffered over the weekend.

Tight end Cornelius Ingram and cornerback Ellis Hobbs returned to practice Wednesday morning as the Eagles worked out in shorts and shells under an overcast sky. Ingram left Tuesday morning’s practice to have “maintenance” on his injured knee. Hobbs missed it with an illness.

The final practice of camp was closed to fans.

The Eagles have a mock game at the NovaCare complex Thursday morning before heading out to Cincinnati.

Kevin Kolb and the rest of the first team are expected to play the first half Friday vs. the Bengals.

Reid addresses Ryan-Dungy debate

The Eagles are an interesting case study in the Rex Ryan-Tony Dungy discussion, given Andy Reid’s religious background, his close relationship with Tony Dungy and the team’s obvious connection to the Ryan family.

In nearly a month at training camp, it’s hard to recall a single curse word coming out of the mouths of the Eagles coaches. That in sharp contrast to Ryan, who is cursing at record pace at Jets camp as the HBO show “Hard Knocks” reveals.

Where does Andy stand?

“I respect the heck out of Tony Dungy and I respect Rex Ryan, too. Everybody does it a little different and that’s how it works,” said Reid. “That’s not necessarily our style. He does it his way. That’s how it rolls.”

Asked by a reporter if coaches on this staff are allowed to curse, he responded, “Only at you guys.”
