Camp Report: Bradley Returns, Dixon And Harris Injured
(Updated 5:00 p.m.)
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – It was a good day on the injury front for the Eagles early Monday, though the afternoon session brought a few scares.
Defensive lineman Antonio Dixon had to be carted off the field, which coach Andy Reid said was a result of Dixon being hit in the head. Dixon left with dizziness, and he needed assistance from several people to get off the ground and into a cart.
Macho Harris also left the afternoon session with what Reid said was a hamstring injury. The safety went down while trying to defend a deep pass and got up favoring his right leg.
Offensive lineman Stacy Andrews did not practice in the afternoon session, sitting out with an injured shoulder.
Earlier, Brent Celek left the morning practice because of dehydration.
But Monday was significant because of one important player’s return to the field. Linebacker Stewart Bradley took part in the afternoon practice after sitting out the morning with a hamstring injury. He was working with a few hobbled players on the site after getting about a half-hour’s worth of work in with the linebacking corps during individual drills.
DeSean Jackson (back), Mike Bell (hamstring) and Asante Samuel (hamstring) all sat out, but each appears to be on the mend. Bradley was out on the field in the morning along with sidelined teammates Todd Herremans, Victor Abiamiri, Jamaal Jackson and Jordan Norwood, to take part in some jujitsu-style calisthenics. He could be nearing a return to action.
The same goes for Jackson. The back injury has been described as minor, and teammates seem to think that he’ll be back as early as Tuesday. Samuel is expected back shortly as well.
Bell, who was in considerable pain when he went down on Sunday, was seen walking to his car without a limp today and did not come off as the least bit concerned about his injury.
Jordan takes over at strongside linebacker
Akeem Jordan was inserted into the starting strongside linebacker spot in place of Moise Fokou, and it appears he’ll be staying there. Fokou was being worked at defensive end for stretches during Monday’s practice. Sean McDermott indicated that he’d like to use Fokou more as a hybrid player, to creep up onto the defensive line in three-lineman sets.
“Moise really rushed the passer quite a bit in college,” said McDermott. “That ’s something we want to take advantage of, get him some reps in there, knock the rust off and see what he can do.”
Rough day for the rookies
Riley Cooper, the 6-foot-3 receiver out of Florida, has been one of the darlings of camp so far, but he stumbled a bit Monday, dropping several passes that he should have caught. The fans, as you’d expect, let him know about it.
Meanwhile, fellow rookie wideout Dobson Collins was seen carrying the pads of one Hank Baskett from the field into the training facility. He, unlike Dez Bryant, took no issue with the request.
Loose ends
J.J. Arrington dropped a couple easy passes of his own, sparking moans from the crowd. … Winston Justice was flagged for a false start on consecutive plays and was pulled for a play in favor of the massive King Dunlap.
