With Stars Benched, Villanova Loses To South Florida

Villanova’s frustrating season continued both on and off the court Thursday night. Just prior to tip-off, it was announced that both Maalik Wayns and Dominic Cheek would start the game on the bench due to a team infraction. Details aren’t known yet, but the on-the-court struggles are well documented. University of South Florida defeated the Wildcats 74-57.

Jay Wright was forced to start three freshmen and it showed. The Wildcats shot only 37.7 percent from the field and only 20 percent from beyond the arc.

Junior guard Jawanza Poland led all scorers with 20 points, while Wayns and Cheek combined for 21 points for Villanova with all of those points coming off the bench.

Three games into the conference schedule, Villanova appears in trouble. They’re still without a win in Big East Play and they’ve dropped three straight. Now they’re 7-8 on the year and apparently falling fast.
